I went to the annual snow thinning.
In order to grow a healthy and beautiful forest, systematic thinning and felling are necessary, but if we do it only in places where forest roads can pass through, it will be distorted. Such a bad place is felled when there is still snow and the timber slides down the mountain. This is the privilege of Uonuma Ohshirakawa, where 5m of snow piles up and the swamp is buried.
This year, there were no thick trees (timbers) that were used for furniture and other products, and the focus was on small-diameter trees for making firewood and miscellaneous goods. I thought it would be easy this year, but the rain from the previous day loosened the snow and made the wood slippery. Thanks for the nice weather.
This time as well, more than 40 people, including students from universities and vocational schools, lumber mills, furniture workshops, designers, photographers, and staff members, gathered not only from the local area, but also from Tokyo, Tochigi, Chiba, and other places. Thank you so much! !
First, we climbed a slope that had been cut down by the Oshirakawa Production Forest Cooperative the day before, taking about 30 minutes to climb. The mountains on the other side seen from the ridge are also beech forests.
After taking a commemorative photo with the members who made it to the top, they started fighting with the logs. Slide it, roll it, or take it down with a single sled.
There is a large hole at the base of the beech tree, and many logs are sucked into it! Young power plays a big role in rescuing this log! Especially Shida Zaimoku's strong arm is wonderful! I really want you to come every year w
Everyone, don't overdo what you can and continue to work happily. The sound of laughter echoing in the mountains is good!
For lunch, cup noodles and coffee are provided by the production forest cooperative. The most delicious!
I did my best again in the afternoon and went home to see the snow flow. When the water level of the dam lake at the foot of the mountain rises, snow drifts on the surface of the water.
I'll come next year for the night before. See you all again!
